How to use a hammer

Personnel who use tools must be familiar with the performance, characteristics, use, storage, repair and maintenance methods of the tools. Various construction tools must be qualified products produced by official manufacturers. Tools must be inspected before work. It is strictly prohibited to use unqualified tools such as corroded, deformed, loose, faulty, or damaged tools.

The hammer is the main striking tool, consisting of a hammer head and a hammer handle. According to the function, the hammer is divided into rust removal, nipple hammer, mechanical, claw hammer, inspection hammer, flat tail inspection hammer, octagonal hammer, German octagonal hammer, and nail hammer…

How to use a hammer

The weight of the hammer should be suitable for the workpiece, material and function. Too heavy or too light will be unsafe. The relationship between hitting energy and hitting speed can be analyzed from the following formula:
W=1/2mv*v
In the formula, W——the energy of hitting the workpiece;
m——the mass of the hammer itself;
v – gives the hammer the speed when the hammer strikes.
When the mass of the hammer is doubled, the energy is doubled, and when the speed is doubled, the energy is increased four times. Therefore, for safety, when using a hammer, you must choose the hammer correctly and control the speed when hitting.

When using a hand hammer, pay attention to the fact that the connection between the hammer head and the hammer handle must be firm. If there is any looseness, tighten it immediately or replace the hammer handle. The length of the hammer’s handle must be moderate. Experience provides a more suitable length for hand-held hammers. The length of the head and forearm is equal to the length of the hand hammer; when a smaller hitting force is required, the hand swing method can be used; when a stronger hitting force is required, the arm swing method should be used; attention should be paid when using the arm swing method The movement arc of the hammer head and the handle of the hand hammer should not be contaminated by grease.

The following points should be noted when using a sledge hammer:

(1) The connection between the hammer head and the handle must be firm. If the hammer head and hammer handle are loose, or the hammer handle has splits or cracks, it must not be used. It is better to wedge the hammer head and hammer handle in the mounting hole with a metal wedge. The length of the wedge should not be greater than 2/3 of the depth of the mounting hole.

(2) In order to have a certain degree of elasticity when hitting, the middle part of the handle near the top is slightly narrower than the end.
(3) When using a sledgehammer, you must pay attention to the front and rear, left and right, up and down. It is strictly forbidden to stand within the movement range of the sledgehammer, and it is not allowed to hit each other with a sledgehammer and a small hammer.

(4) The hammer head is not allowed to be quenched, and there are no cracks or burrs. If flash curls are found, they should be repaired in time.

A claw hammer can be used for knocking, hammering, and pulling out nails, but it should not be used for hammering larger workpieces. When driving nails, the hammer head should hit the nail cap flat so that the nails penetrate vertically into the wood. When pulling out the nails, it is advisable to place a wooden block on the horn to enhance the pulling force. The claw hammer should not be used as a pry tool, and attention should be paid to hammering. The surface should be flat and intact to prevent nails from flying out or hammers from slipping and injuring people.
